VRS (Video Relay Service)

VRS makes it possible for sign language users to communicate in their native language via video conferencing. This feature requires a computer with a high-speed Internet connection, Microsoft® Internet Explorer Web browser, and a compatible video camera, D-link videophone or another compatible videophone.

There are two ways to place a VRS call:
Option 1: Using your television, a broadband cable television connection and a video device. To learn more, visit www.sorensonvrs.com or www.hipvrs.com.

Option 2: Using your PC, a Web camera and a high-speed Internet connection. To learn more, visit any of the following VRS sites:

Now available: Ten-Digit Phone Numbers for VRS Users!
As of January 1, 2009, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a ten-digit phone numbering system in place for all VRS users.

With ten-digit dialing, VRS users can:

  • Make an emergency call via VRS. Your ten-digit number and location information will automatically route to the nearest emergency center. (Currently, emergency calls from VRS users lack key identifying data and typically need to be rerouted.)
  • Receive calls directly from voice users.
  • Dial VRS users directly.
  • Switch providers at any time and keep the same telephone number.
